  • Searching for other researchers that are working on these surnames to exchange information and help each other. I am particularly looking for the LEVEQUE Family from Canada whose famiy settled in Mackinac County in the early 1800's. Some given names for this family are: John Bte II, Issac, Paul, Mary L, and there are others, 10 known children whose names I do not have yet. Per the 1860 Census for Michilimakinac Co., St. Ignace Twp.,... Mary Lavake b. abt.1821-4 Canada married Louis LaJoice in Mackinac county on March 18, 1837. Louis was born in Canada abt. 1808. She is part of the LEVEQUE Family above from Canada. According to this census they had 5 children in Canada and 5 children after coming to Mackinac County. I have Mary Lavake/Leveque's death cert(died June 1905 in St. Ignace) which states her parents are Paul Lavake/Leveque and Mary Bishop but nothing else. For the surname PLANKEY, I am looking for the parents of Rufus Plankey b. Sept 16, 1875 Canada, Immigrated 1890, married in St. Ignace to Agnes Lajoice. Rufus' father name is Frank or Francis. They reportedly stayed with the Beckers upon coming to MI. I am also interested in further info on Angeline Robinson b. 1841 in Mackinac Co.(1870 #59-14) and her father Francis Robinson b. 1797 in Canada. Francis married Josette Jacob Chebayabos in Mackinac county on Sept 11, 1826. I am searching for the Indian family of LOUIS/LEWIS from Mackinac County. Charles Louis b. 1863 (DR #3453) married Marie Louisa Smith Way-we-gon-nay-be (DR # 3454). Both Mackinaw Band. Other surname info: LEVEQUE CAN>MI EARLY 1800'S LAVAKE MI 1800'S LAJOIE CAN>MI EARLY 1800'S LAJOICE MI 1800'S PLANKEY CAN>MI LATE 1800'S AMIOT CAN>MI EARLY 1800'S ROBINSON CAN>ME LATE 1700'S LOUIS/LEWIS MI EARLY 1800'S LAMBERT CAN>MI EARLY 1800'S Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. • Hello; My Great great great grandfather was James Gruet. He was a fur-trading partner of Gruet & LaFramboise in the Michilimacinac region from about 1769 until about 1812. James and his family were French-Canadian and Indian. His sons worked as Guides and Interpreters. James and his family were Canadian citizens at the time and were transported from Mackinac Island to Drummond Island after the War of 1812. In 1828 they were transported from Drummond Island to Penetanguishene, Ontario. For a short period about 1780, James functioned as Notary in the Mackinac area. I would appreciate any information or suggestions on areas to search regarding James Gruet and his wife, Julia Francoise, his sons James, William and Peter and his daughters Julia Francoise and Sophia. Thank you.

John Kern ca1875 supposedly in the UP, perhaps in Chippewa County. Her first marriage was to a Mr. Watson. We found an Appleford Road on a county map while we visited the area last summer.
